What To Expect

Your first appointment is all about understanding your body and setting the stage for healing. Here’s what you can typically expect:

Shoulder Treatment

Your First Massage Appointment

Before the Massage

  • Arrival & Intake: Arrive about 10–15 minutes early to fill out a health history form. This helps your therapist understand any medical conditions, injuries, or areas of concern.

  • Consultation: You’ll have a brief chat with your therapist to discuss your goals—whether it’s pain relief, stress reduction, or something else. They may do a quick assessment to tailor the session.

During the Massage

  • Privacy & Comfort: You’ll be left alone to undress to your comfort level and lie under a sheet on the massage table. Only the area being worked on will be uncovered at any time.

  • Techniques Used: Depending on your needs, we may use long strokes, kneading, deep pressure, or gentle stretching. You’re encouraged to speak up if the pressure is too much or too little.

  • Environment: Expect a calm, quiet space with soft lighting and relaxing music. We use oils or lotions—let us know if you have allergies or preferences.

After the Massage

  • Post-Treatment Tips: We will offer advice like drinking water, stretching, or avoiding strenuous activity for the rest of the day.

  • Feedback: You can share how you felt during the session and ask about follow-up treatments if needed.

Upper Back Massage

Your First Osteopathy Appointment

Health History & Conversation

Your osteopath will begin by asking about your medical history, lifestyle, past injuries, and current symptoms. This helps them understand the bigger picture—because osteopathy treats the body as an interconnected whole.

Physical Assessment

You’ll stay fully clothed (wear something comfy, like yoga wear), and the practitioner will assess your posture, joint mobility, muscle tone, and how your body moves. They may also gently palpate different areas to feel for tension or imbalances.

Hands-On Treatment

Based on their findings, your osteopath will use gentle manual techniques like:

  • Soft tissue work

  • Joint mobilization

  • Fascial release

  • Craniosacral therapy

  • Visceral manipulation

These movements are often subtle but can have a big impact on how your body feels and functions.

Aftercare & Advice

You might receive guidance on stretches, posture, or lifestyle tweaks to support your recovery. Some people feel immediate relief, while others notice changes over a few days.

It’s a calm, collaborative experience—and you’re encouraged to ask questions or share how you’re feeling throughout.
